: : : : Looks as though there is now another new body-type.  I just came from the new Gallery.  Take a look at the Albino Marigold on the first page there.  The body is basically albino, but shows a vestige of the tuxedo in the brownish coloration along the sides.  I'm curious to know if this trait is simply a hybrid, or can be stabilized and bred true.  Don?  Anyone?

: : : This trait can be stabilized and does breed true.  I crossed a true breeding marigold albino male with ture breeding yellow tux female for the intial F1 generation.  (For me the key to my sanity is to always make sure the strains used for crosses are true breding.  If all the males in the F1 look alike I continue working the cross.)  F2 breaks out into tux/non-tux phenotypes. Next it's a process of finding females in the F2 that carry the tux trait by mating male tux with seveal sisters and only working with the brood(s) that show 100% tux in the F3.  BTW, the use of the "Flame" description I used in naming the guys I submitted to Greg refers to color.   I was not aware of the use of this term to refer to body type until just a couple of days ago, sorry.

: : IMHO albino tux is not a new body-type.  In the world of real guppies these were refered to as blond albinos way back in the 70's when I raised real guppies.  Whenever I want to breed the tux version of a color I find interesting I use various albino tux strain females I have developed for the F1 generation.  Since I find that tux is passed on by the female this cross provides the tux gene without taking me too many generations away from the color I eventualy wish to achieve.  Over time I have archived many strains of albinos (tux, cobra, mosaic) that do not look different to the eye but I know what colors and patterns they will pass on if used in a cross with regular body colors. My experience so far has been that the lemon/canary albinos have the least effect on color when crossed with regular colored strains.  My strains of marigold albinos seem to pass on the overlay trait which I find dull, but I always give them a try just to see!
