: It looks to me like the body could be a combination of both tuxedo and cobra. That means that body pattern is not the result of a single gene, but multiple genes. There would be a gene for tuxedo and a separate gene for cobra. Both can be on or off in any combination.
I disagree, based on some limited understanding of computer programming. There are two ways they could have handled it --
A) It's a combination, which would require two pieces of code to be ON or OFF. This would require each fish to have two codes.
B) It's a combination that creates it's own gene... example, if we pretend that Cobra is K and Tux is T and Flame is F, it might do something like IF I suspect that 9003inc. took the easy way out and used B... it's "cheaper" in terms of program space and manhours to code it that way from what I understand... Not that I know very much about it! I'm going to breed a couple of "flames" together... if I get all flames, I'm going to assume it's a new gene. If I get the expected result of 25% Tux, 25% Cobra and 50% Flame I'm going to do a dance of joy and assume they used the more genetically correct programming method. : It looks like the tuxedo is sex linked to the mother and the cobra is sex linked to the father, so when you breed a male tuxedo to a female cobra you get nothing and when you breed a male cobra to a female tuxedo you get both. Normal is sex linked on the mother also. Refer back to the graphics on the Tuxedo/Normal crosses. I do wonder if recessive genes exist... for instance, COULD those normal appearing offspring produce Cobra offspring when bred back to a cobra? : I had noticed the sex linking before, but had not crossed a tuxedo with a cobra. Your results show what I would have expected. For the most part they showed what I expected too... the intermingling of patterns caught me by surprise though! It is very attractive to me. 8) Now the important question... HOW did they do the Albinos? Is it simply albino is albino, or did they do it like real fish and the albinos will show patterns in faded/muted colors? I think it's the first... 8(
