Purples and Peduncles

Well, what I am seeing is that the colored peduncles are as much a variable as the tail colors themselves (i.e. a specific trait). I think it might be sex-linked, but don't grasp how it works yet. Anyway, if the peduncle thing IS a separate trait, then we ought to be able to derive Guppies that are JUST purple (see Plum color in Gallery). That color is rather dark, so there may be lighter shades out there just waiting for us to hit on the right combination to breed brighter "pure" colors as well as to breed OUT the colored peduncles. (They are actually quite pretty in certain combinations.)
