: Great minds must think alike! I think you have something going there. We talked about this a bit in the "WOW This is Complicated" thread. I'd like to refer you to Message 23. (you can view it by clicking on the link in the last sentence. In that message I proposed a genetic scheme which used the RGB color model you refer to. Our ideas are very similar!
I went back and re-read that post. Gosh, it makes a lot more sense to me NOW than it did THEN! My mind is a bit simplistic sometimes, and you have to use words of less than one syllable to get my attention! Obviously, this is YOUR theory, and I have no intention of claiming otherwise -- I'm just a slow learner :-) -- but suddenly it is all growing clear. The programmers are/were bound by the limitations of how colors are generated on the PC!!! Now all we have to do is sort out how these RGB color codes are passed along in our fishies, and what determines the color displayed.
BTW, this last part doesn't seem to be getting any easier. My latest batch of fry yielded 9 males, and EIGHT of the little goobers are DIFFERENT COLORS!!!! I got Mauve, Wine, 2 Silvers, Watermelon, Pure Pink, Coral, Garnet and Pewter. Go figure.
