In Reply to: Which Female to choose for my half black Tuxedo? posted by Nicholas Khoo on November 14, 2000 at 00:15:15:
: Hi everyone! I am a great enthusiasts of guppies. Recently, I have just bought 8 beautiful half black red tail tuxedo (it's body is have a bit of purple color and the tail is dark red). I am not sure what kinda strain of guppies I have bought!!
: I really need help here, and I was wondering if Greg could kindly assist me. The problem I am having is that I can't find the related females for these males that I have bought. If I were to find 2 or more females (as long as it is red tail with clear body) for them, what other type of females suits them that will produce generations that are similar to the males?
: For your information, I bought these males from a pet shop.
: PLEASE HELP!!!
Apologies for not answering earlier. I have been in the Middle East for the last two weeks.
Well... My experience with "real" guppies is somewhat limited, but as far as I know (and anyone here can correct me without hurting my feelings) the male is predominantly responsible for passing on the coloration you have mentioned. I would probably start out with the plainest females I can find and pair them up one female to one male (each in a separate tank if you have the resources). Whichever pair produces the best offspring would be your starting stock for further breeding.
Just a suggestion. Any advice from others?
